European device makers can certify Wi-SUN FAN products for global markets, including N.A., Brazil, Japan and Australia/New Zealand, without leaving the region
BEAVERTON, OR, UNITED STATES, September 15, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Wi-SUN Alliance, the global ecosystem promoting open, secure, and interoperable wireless mesh networking for utilities and smart cities, today announced that Germany-based LocosLab GmbH has been appointed as the first Wi-SUN Field Area Network (FAN) authorized test lab in Europe, expanding global certification access. Open to manufacturers worldwide, LocosLab lets European device makers complete Wi-SUN FAN certification for international markets through a locally accessible lab, eliminating the cost and complexity of shipping devices to facilities outside Europe.
“LocosLab’s appointment is a significant milestone for the Wi-SUN ecosystem in Europe,” said Phil Beecher, President and CEO of the Wi-SUN Alliance.
“European manufacturers building Wi-SUN FAN products for global deployment can now certify their devices for multiple international markets locally. That offers a meaningful reduction in time, cost, and logistical complexity. Combined with the momentum of the FAN Low Energy profile opening new market segments across Europe, this is the type of infrastructure investment that accelerates ecosystem growth.”
LocosLab’s authorization aligns with the growing adoption of Wi-SUN FAN in Europe. The FAN Low Energy (LE) profile, which is designed to support battery-powered devices with operational lifespans of 10 to 20 years, opens significant new market opportunities, particularly for smart gas and water meters and smart city sensors, including grid-edge devices where long battery life is essential. Additionally, Wi-SUN FAN’s recent ratification as ISO/IEC/IEEE 32857:2026 and the scaling of smart grid modernization, AMI 2.0 and smart city initiatives are driving European deployment demand. LocosLab is positioned to support certification across the breadth of the Wi-SUN FAN specification to support this growth.
“Our authorization means the certification infrastructure supporting the standard now has a meaningful foothold in the region, making it more practical for European utilities, municipalities, and device manufacturers to build on Wi-SUN FAN with confidence,” said Prof. Dr. Pedro José Marrón, CEO, LocosLab. “With LocosLab’s authorization, European manufacturers developing Wi-SUN FAN products for global markets now have access to a local certification partner as well as a European innovation leader that has been actively involved in the definition and development of Wi-SUN FAN products for almost ten years. This removes a real barrier to bringing compliant, interoperable devices to market faster as Wi-SUN deployments accelerate.”
