ILS Pinecrest Campus Adds High School Grades, New Learning Resources

ALPENA, MI, UNITED STATES, August 17, 2026 /EINPresswire.com/ — Immanuel Lutheran School has announced the official dedication of its new West Campus at 700 Pinecrest Street in Alpena.

The dedication will be held at the new campus on Sunday, August 23, 2026 at 3:45 p.m. Following a ribbon cutting and a brief ceremony led by Rev. Jim Erickson and Rev. Joshua Schultz, the public is invited to tour the building and see the progress that has been made in renovating the building over the last year.

Visitors with children in Grades PreK through 10 will also be able to enjoy refreshments, ask questions, meet faculty, and apply for enrollment.

The dedication ceremony marks the completion of a $2 million dollar renovation of the former Oxbow School, also known as the former ACES Academy building.

Over the past year, the building has been completely transformed. In addition to structural changes that have brought the 60 year-old building up to date with the latest fire code, learning spaces have been repainted and re-carpeted, and nearly 5 miles of new high-speed data cable has been run to ensure students have access to state-of- the-art learning resources.

The renovation project has been mostly funded by Immanuel Lutheran Church, in conjunction with generous community members and foundations who have provided matching grant opportunities. The project’s capital campaign is now in its public phase. Contributions made now will be applied to a current matching grant challenge and to help defray costs through the first year of operation.

There has been a sharp increase in demand for private Christian education in Northeast Michigan over the past several years. In addition to the renovation work, Immanuel has hired two new teachers to help with the growing influx of students.

According to the principal, Rev. Joshua Schultz, the school is also actively pursuing partnerships with community education organizations, area homeschool cooperatives, and private foundations to help expand the range of learning opportunities the school can provide.

Parents who are interested in enrollment and people looking to contribute should visit the school website for more information.

Immanuel Lutheran School, founded in 1875, is one of the oldest Lutheran schools in Michigan. It moved to its current building in 1958. With a mission to “teach, proclaim, and live Christ in all things,” Immanuel Lutheran School gives Alpena-area families a Christ-centered school option with strong academics and rich extracurriculars.
